Huskies Can't Get Through Red Storm

This game was just flat out crazy.  A four point game at halftime, St. John's was poised to upset UConn, but they did more than just that.  St. John's played some of the best basketball I've ever seen, knocking down every jumper and keeping Kemba Walker away from the hoop.  St. John's may have just got the win to put themselves comfortably into the NCAA tournament.  With wins over Georgetown, Notre Dame, Duke, and now Uconn, their resume has solidified despite losing 9 games already.  In fact, St. John's has the same record as UConn in the Big East at 6-5.

Dwight Hardy had a night to remember, dropping 33 points and doing it effectively.  He shot 10-17 from the field, making 5-8 three pointers and draining all 7 of his free throw attempts.  He know has 65 points in his last two games (Hardy scored 32 vs. UCLA on Sunday).  UConn represents the #1 Opponents Field Goal Percentage defense in the Big East, but nobody told St. John's, who shot over 50%.  D.J. Kennedy also had a great game for the Red Storm, garnering a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

This is a big win for St. John's, but at the same time, it's a huge loss for UConn.  UConn has shown its inconsistencies throughout the season and now is 18-5 this season.  They fall into the middle of the pack in the Big East, hurting their chances to earn a bye in the Big East tournament.  This team should be fine by the tournament, but they must figure out a way to score when Kemba Walker isn't on fire and against a zone defense.  Syracuse frustrated the Huskies last week and ultimately pointed out UConn's biggest weakness.  We'll see how UConn bounces back on Sunday vs. Providence.
