Big Night in College Basketball

With the fast approaching NBA Trade Deadline on Thursday, most of the sports news has been about the blockbuster deals (Carmelo to NY, Williams to NJ).  However, the NBA Playoffs don't start until mid-April, when the real season begins.  Tonight there will be a ton of key games in college hoops that will have a big effect on the tournament.  Listed below are a few games that will affect Conference tournaments and ultimately the NCAA tournament.

Cincinnati @ Georgetown: The Bearcats are coming off a big win vs. Louisville and a win against Georgetown would probably put them in the front of the bubble watch.  Cincinnati played a very weak non-conference schedule, but a 9th win, against Georgetown, in the Big East will probably get them into the tournament.  Georgetown on the other hand needs a win in order to stay in the hunt for a #2 seed in the NCAA tournament, not to mention a bye in the first two rounds of the Big East tournament.

Baylor @ Missouri:  Baylor was ranked early in the season, but has struggled mightily since conference play has begun.  Despite that, Baylor can get a huge resume win vs. Missouri tonight, putting them back on track to earn a bid to the Big Dance.  Missouri is all but locked in to the tournament, but if they want to be a a #4 or #5, they will need to win this game.

Kansas State @ Nebraska:  This game features no ranked teams, but a huge Big 12 game nonetheless.  Both teams are 6-6 in conference play, putting them in position to earn an at-large bid.  Whoever wins this game has a leg up on the other, giving them a better shot at the tournament.  Look for this game to come down to the wire.

Colorado State @ BYU: If CSU wins this game, they will make the tournament.  If they lose, they probably won't.  They need this game badly to get another team from the Mountain West conference into the NCAA tournament.  Colorado State has a great record of 18-8(8-4), but a win vs. a top-tier school like BYU will secure a spot.  BYU is in great position to get a #2 seed and a win here will all but secure it.
